Alvin Amos ‘Al’ Spence Jr

Alvin Amos “Al” Spence, Jr. of Rudolph, Ohio went to live with our Lord and Savior on Sunday July 30, 2017. Al was born to Alvin, Sr & Hazel (Gregg) Spence on February 28, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio. He married Elaine Soukup-Wichman December 21, 1985 and she survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Sherri Lynn Zicree of Anaheim, CA, Mary Ann (Tom) Schneider of Toledo, OH and his step-children Kevin Wichman (Nicole Vollmar) of Tontogany, OH, Kathy (Dan) Huffman of Columbus, OH, Rodney (Julie) Wichman of Weston, OH, Renee (Chris) Baker of Bowling Green, OH, Gary (Bethanie) Wichman of Sandusky, OH, Terri (Paul) Huggins of Kings Mountain, NC, Deborah Hinton (Dean Turpening) of New Rochester, OH, Don Rodenberger (Connie Oehler-Klein) Davidson, NC and Troy (Nora) Rodenberger of Green Cove Springs, FL. Al also has several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Through Al’s 91 years he has had many accomplishments. He was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was chosen to be on the Honor Flight five years ago. Until retirement, Al owned and operated three gasoline service stations, the last being AA Sunoco in Bowling Green for fifteen years. Al was a life member of the VFW and the Bowling Green Elks Lodge. He served as president of the Elks National Bowling Association and the Ohio Elks Bowling Association and also served as officer on several local bowling leagues. In addition he was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame for his bowling achievement.

Al was always busy doing something. He loved living in the woods but could have done without the fall leaf cleanup. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, reading and showing off his woodworking skills. Many have been blessed with his handiwork over the years. He also enjoyed getting together with friends and family and showed off his competitive spirit in golf, volleyball, horseshoes, bowling and corn hole.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother William Spence.

A private service will be held by the family. Dunn Funeral Home is handling arrangments.
