Barbara Elizabeth Zahrend of Napoleon, Ohio passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 with friends and caretakers by her side. Barbara was born on April 14, 1923 to the late Earl and Bertha (Gilson) Zahrend of Napoleon. She was born in and lived in the home her grandparents built around 1908.
Barbara was a lifelong caring teacher of children after graduation from Bowling Green State University. She taught first grade at Napoleon Central School. Barbara was then offered a job supervising student teachers at BGSU which she did for 16 years. Due to her mom being ill, Barbara then came home to Napoleon to finish her career teaching first graders at Napoleon West Elementary while caring for her parents.
Barbara loved reading and created many beautiful needle point pictures, poems, pillow covers, and purses. Many of these adorned her home. She also enjoyed doll collecting and sharing them at Mother-Daughter Banquets as “Dolls Tell a Story” Theme.
Visitation for Barbara will be on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the Wright-Hanneman Funeral Home, 302 E. Maple Street, Liberty Center, Ohio 43532. Tele: 419-533-2471. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Napoleon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be gifted in Barbara’s honor to the Napoleon Library, the Arbor Day Foundation, or the Humane Society.
