Fueled by heavy winds, a fire destroyed a metal pole barn and a three-car garage, and killed some goats at Ron Bechstein’s home southwest of Bowling Green.

Bowling Green Fire Division was called by Weston Fire Department, Monday around 2 p.m., to assist with the fire. When Bowling Green firefighters arrived on the scene, at 16512 Sand Ridge Road, the barn and garage were fully engulfed, Chief Bill Moorman said.

So the firefighters worked to save the house.

“It was quite a difficult task,” with high winds driving the flames toward the house, Moorman said.

The house suffered some exterior damage, with melting siding and broken windows. When the fire moved from the garage into the attic, the firefighters were able to knock it down, the chief said.

No firefighters were injured, but some goats were killed by the blaze.

The cause is being investigated.

Other fire departments assisting Weston, in addition to Bowling Green, were Milton Township, Middleton Township, Washington Township and Central Joint.

Sand Ridge Road was closed for part of the afternoon.
