WGTE to present multimedia series, ‘More Than Medicine’

From WGTE PUBLIC MEDIA

WGTE Public Media is proud to announce a new multimedia series, “More Than Medicine,” in which host Doni Miller discusses the role of community health centers in addressing health concerns throughout northwest Ohio. The series consists of three components: a podcast series, a half-hour documentary, and a community conversation.

On Thursday, Oct. 8, the documentary and community conversation will be broadcast on WGTE TV 30.1. The documentary, “More Than Medicine: Building Community Health” will air at 8 p.m., exploring the history and enduring impact of community health centers, from a national movement for greater access to care to the founding of Toledo’s Cordelia Martin Health Center. Through personal stories and local history, the film reveals how neighborhood-based care became a vital force for healthier, stronger communities.

Following the documentary, “More Than Medicine: A Community Conversation” will feature local leaders as they discuss the role of community health, the barriers that remain and how providers can build greater trust and engagement with the communities they serve.

The collaboration also includes a five-part podcast series, “More Than Medicine with Doni Miller,” which began Sept. 23. This companion series examines the forces shaping health across northwest Ohio. The series brings together local voices to explore infant mortality, violence, mental wellness, poverty, homelessness, and aging, and consider what it takes to build a healthier community for everyone.

“As access to healthcare remains a vital topic for discussion, both here and across the nation, programs like this can provide much-needed context for the wider audience,” said Doni Miller, the series host and president and CEO of Neighborhood Health Association. “I am very pleased to be partnering with WGTE to present this information in a way that engages and informs the people of this region.”

“Through her work on WGTE’s public affairs program, ‘To the Point,’ Doni Miller has demonstrated a keen eye for getting to the heart of any matter she seeks to address,” said Shane Potgieter, WGTE’s content and creative services officer. “We are very excited to provide a platform through which she can share her expertise in public health and spotlight the issues that matter to our audience.”
