Betty J Birr

Betty J. Birr, 75, of Bowling Green made her way home to be with her eternal family in heaven on Wednesday (February 20, 2019) at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

She retired in 1998 as a Supervisor with ConRail.

Born November 19, 1943 in Leesburg, Virginia to Edwin Owens Sr. and Ella (Gray) Wright. Surviving family includes one daughter, Dawn (Lewis) Nienow; three sisters, Mary Ann (Owens) Baker, Winnie (Owens) Diggs, Rosebud (Owens) Isleib; one brother, Richard Owens; and three grandchildren, Drew Nienow, Tyler Nienow, and Kylie Nienow.
She was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers; Edwin Owens Jr. and Clayton Owens.

Betty’s heart and soul was her grandchildren. She loved to take them out to lunch or just spend time talking about life with them. She was extremely proud of all of them as could be seen by the sparkle in her eye whenever she talked about them.

Betty had a compassionate heart that never met someone she didn’t then consider a friend. She enjoyed playing golf, drinking a good glass of Zinfandel and having parties with friends on her deck. It is presumed that Betty is currently in heaven messing up computer log-ins, finding fixer up projects for the angels to do and watching Notre Dame Football from the best seat at the bar.

Betty was a member of the Fallen Timber’s Men’s Golf League, the Elkhart Moose Lodge, the Elkhart Disabled American Veterans organization and the Bowling Green Eagles club.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster St. Pastor Scott Estep will officiate. Visitation will be held Thursday morning at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m.

The family would like to thank all of the wonderful nurse, aides and doctors that cared for Betty while she was at the Toledo Hospice NWO. They were angels on Earth.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
