Beware of scam calls about fake sheriff’s office warrants

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports of citizens getting phone calls from a person claiming to be Lt. Holland, from the sheriff’s office. The caller reportedly advises citizens that they have an outstanding warrant and will be arrested if they don’t take care of the issue immediately.

The impostor than attempts to gain financial information from the citizens.

Although the Wood County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting more business via phone to comply with the COVID-19 mandates, the sheriff’s office does not attempt to serve warrants in this manner.

Anyone contacted by someone claiming there is a warrant for arrest should advise the caller that you know it’s a scam and hang up. Anyone with questions or concerns should contact Det. Lt. Rod Smith at 419-354-9682 or at rlsmith@co.wood.oh.us.
