When Bowling Green State University students return later this month, they will be welcomed to the community with the chance to zipline down Main Street, compete in a Ninja Warrior course, eat and listen to music in downtown Bowling Green.

Mayor Mike Aspacher announced to City Council Monday evening that BGSU and the city are teaming up to invite people of all ages to gather, explore the downtown, welcome students, and be entertained.

The new event – called Rally BG on Main – will be held Saturday, Aug. 28, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., in the downtown area.

Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic for the duration of the event, allowing for a day packed with activities in the heart of the city, Aspacher said.

In addition to the zipline and Ninja Warrior course for thrill seekers, there will also be opportunities to meet Freddie and Frieda Falcon, make a street sign, watch a movie on a large outdoor screen, and support local shops and restaurants.

Throughout the day, live music will be playing on stage, the BGSU Marching Band will march, and cheer and dance groups will perform.

The event will be free of charge – except for food and drinks. A website will be available and be updated with the planned activities as the event nears.

“This has the strong support of President Rogers,” the mayor said of the BGSU president.

“There is great value in coming together as a community.”
