On Saturday, May 18, the Bowling Green Area Community Bands will be celebrating their 15th anniversary season.
Beginning at 7 p.m. in the Bowling Green Performing Arts Center, the Crystal Anniversary Concert will feature a wonderful array of “up tempo” numbers, some with a very familiar patriotic theme as well as an original composition by and directed by Carl Holmquist from suburban Washington, D.C.
The concert will also feature dancers from Julie’s Dance Studio in “Tutued Toucan Can-Can.”
Leading the BGACB will be the band’s longtime conductor, Thomas R. Headley with Catherine Lewis as assistant conductor. Nick Ezzone is the band’s conductor laureate.
The concert will also feature three numbers by BiG Band BG with Rob Cintron and Brian Bushong as co-directors.
The BGACB is another example of a community initiative coupled with the support from the BG City Schools, BGSU and the College of Musical Arts, the City of BG and the BG Area Chamber of Commerce.
But most importantly, the band is a wonderful blending of musicianship by older and younger band enthusiasts from BG and throughout the region, including several who are active and retired high school band directors.
Of particular note, the BGACB has been a special blessing for some of its members, including yours truly, in providing an opportunity for fulfilling a dream of “music the second time around.”
If you are a band enthusiast, I am confident you will leave on a “high note.” See you Saturday night at the BGACB “admission free” concert.
