Bowling Green Public Works Director Mick Murray reported on paving projects in the city earlier this week to City Council. Following is the information on projects completed this year and planned for next year.
2022 paving completed using American Rescue Plan Act funding:
- Paved approximately seven miles of roadway, primarily in Wards 1 and 2 but also on Mitchell Road between Sand Ridge and Poe roads.
- As part of the paving projects, the city updated curb ramps to make them ADA compliant. In all, the city replaced 100 curb ramps.
- Replaced 1,165 linear feet of sidewalk and 7,000 linear feet of curb.
- Paved one mile on East Wooster (not using ARPA funds) and just under a half mile in City Park, where a shared use path was added around the park.
2023 paving projects planned with ARPA funds:
- Anticipate paving six miles of roadway in Ward 4 and updating 160 curb ramps.
- We also plan to pave Newton Road from Brim Road to Main Street, and Main Street from 500 feet south of Newton Road, north to the corporation limit (not ARPA).
Public Works projects completed this year:
- Added two crosswalks – one on East Wooster Street and one on North Wintergarden Road.
- Replaced 1,300 linear feet of sidewalk and 550 linear feet of curb.
- Replaced 18 catch basins, and 16 ADA plates.
- Performed all the concrete work at the all-inclusive playground in Carter Park – 300 man hours.
- 2,218 scheduled brush pick-ups.
- 503 scheduled large item pick-ups.
