The Bowling Green Exchange Club Tuesday honored Bowling Green High School senior Elena VanderHart as its December Student of the Month. Her academic record is exceptional…she has a 4.5 grade point average, which places her at the top of her class. She is also a member of both the National Honor and Spanish honor societies.
Her school activities include the Chorale, Quiz Bowl Team and Student Activities Board, where she is the current treasurer. She has volunteered for several activities, including at the elementary schools, the Black Swamp Arts Festival and the Wood County Youth Olympics.
She also has an interest in horses and has been riding since she was 6 years old. She is the only BGHS student active in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association, which conducts horsemanship competitions at the high school level and she has done quite well. She is a former national novice horsemanship champion and is a two-time qualifier for the IEA nationals.
Elena is planning to major in biology when she attends college next year and her choices currently include The Ohio State University, Michigan,
Miami or Wisconsin.
