A family and their dog escaped a fire at their home Tuesday afternoon in Bowling Green.
BG Fire Division was called to the home in the 300 block of West Poe Road at 2:26 p.m., after a child at the home notified the mother that the garage was on fire, BG Fire Captain Nathan Espinoza said. The family escaped with no injuries.
Firefighters had the fire under control by 2:40 p.m., preventing the fire from reaching further than the garage and breezeway connecting to the house.
Home at the time of the fire was the mother and three children, along with a small dog. The father was at work at the time, Espinoza said.
The garage suffered moderate to heavy fire damage, and the house sustained some smoke damage.
The utilities to the home were shut off for tonight, so the five family members are spending the night elsewhere. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
