Two Bowling Green Ice Cats Travel hockey teams will represent Bowling Green when they compete against American and Canadian youth hockey programs in the International Silver Streak Stick Finals in January 2023.
The 10 or under Squirt and the 12 or under Pee Wee teams were among the Ice Cats teams that competed in the regional tournament Nov. 18-20 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and earned bids to the finals.
The 10U Squirt team beat Grosse Ile Islanders 11-0; Louisville Cardinals 5-2; Gross Ile Islanders 7-1; and
the Louisville Cardinals for the championship 6-1. Goalie Ellis Nicholson was the tournament MVP.
The 12U Pee Wee team defeated Columbus Mavericks 1-0; Toledo Cherokee 3-1, Lake Erie Panthers 6-0;
and Toledo Cherokee for the championship 3-1. Defenseman Bobby Pekarik, who had three goals in the
championship game, was named the tournament MVP.
The 10U Squirt team will travel to Sarnia, Ontario, Jan. 13-25. The 12U Pee Wee team will compete in Port Huron, Michigan, Jan. 19-23.
Tony Lake, president of the Bowling Green Youth Hockey Association, congratulated “the players, coaches and parents for the hard-fought victories while displaying sportsmanship and team-focused play throughout each competition.”
