A Bowling Green man was charged with assault and criminal damaging last week after he reportedly broke a car window and punched the driver.
Bowling Green Police Division was called Thursday around 5:46 p.m., for a reported assault. A man reported that he was arguing with a female friend at a bar downtown when Matthew Purdy, 31, became critical of the man’s behavior.
The man told police he left the bar and got in his car to go home. When he got to the stoplight at North Main and East Court streets, the driver and Purdy exchanged more words.
Purdy reportedly hopped the railing at the bar and approached the vehicle. The driver told police he started putting up his window when Purdy threw a punch and broke the driver’s window. He reportedly threw a second punch, striking the driver on the cheek.
Dispatch located the incident on video and provided a description of the suspect.
When contacted by police, Purdy reportedly said the man in the vehicle had threatened to shoot him in the face while they were at the bar and again while he was in the vehicle.
Purdy later came to the police division and received his citation.
