Bowling Green Police Division charged a man with driving while intoxicated and improper transport of a firearm in his vehicle early this morning.
Matthew Cordaro, 25, of Bowling Green, was driving on South Mercer Road around 2:22 a.m. Wednesday, when police reportedly observed him cross the center line and then stop in the middle of an intersection for a stop sign.
The officer reportedly noticed Cordaro’s speech was slurred, his eyes were glassy, and his movements were slow. Cordaro reportedly failed the field sobriety tests, so he was placed in the cruiser.
The officer asked if Cordaro wanted him to park his truck in a nearby parking lot, or if he wanted the vehicle towed. Cordaro reportedly said the officer could park his truck nearby.
When the officer opened the truck door, he saw a firearm inside a plastic holster in the driver’s door pocket. The officer removed the magazine that contained eight unspent rounds. There were no rounds in the chamber.
Cordaro reportedly told police he had purchased the firearm in Virginia and forgot it was in the vehicle.
At the police station, Cordaro submitted a breath sample with a 0.166 BAC. He was cited for the stop sign violation, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, improper transport of a firearm while intoxicated, and failing to advise the officer of the firearm in the vehicle. He was taken to Wood County Jail.
