A Bowling Green man was charged with driving under the influence after he reportedly hit the boulders sitting where Crim Street dead ends near Third Street.

Bowling Green Police Division responded Sunday, at 2:37 a.m., after Brett Griffin, 22, reportedly lost control of his vehicle.

The blue Honda CR-V had heavy front-end damage. It appeared that the CR-V was driving southbound on Crim Street and continued straight after the street dead ended. The CR-V struck a large rock on the passenger side of the vehicle and then smashed into another large rock with the front end of the vehicle.

According to the police report, Griffin smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot glassy eyes, and was hard to understand because of slurred speech.

Griffin initially denied driving his vehicle, according to the report, and said he had no idea how the car ended up there. He later told police he had “a pretty good number” of drinks, got in his car, and ended up at the crash scene.

According to the police report, Griffin and a friend were drinking at a bar. The friend told police that he knew Griffin was intoxicated and he tried to convince Griffin not to drive. The friend was following Griffin home when the crash occurred.

Bowling Green EMS was called to the scene since Griffin reportedly had some blood on his neck. The ambulance took him to Wood County Hospital, where Griffin gave a urine sample.

Griffin was cited for OVI and failure to maintain reasonable control, then taken to Wood County jail.
