BG man cited after accidentally firing gun into apartment below

A Bowling Green man was charged Friday after accidentally firing his gun into the apartment below his.

Bowling Green Police Division was called around 11:10 p.m., to an apartment in the 400 block of East Napoleon Road. According to the police report, Marc Mainor, 33, who had accidentally fired his gun, had his wife call police while he checked on the resident in the downstairs apartment.

Mainor told police they were moving and it slipped his mind that his pistol was on top of the bookshelf in the front room of the apartment. As he was moving the bookshelf, the pistol reportedly fell from the top. Mainor told police he tried to catch the firearm, and must have grazed the trigger, which caused the round to discharge.

The single round went through the floor. Police found the hole in the ceiling of the apartment below.

Mainor told police he immediately cleared the pistol then ran downstairs to check on his neighbor, who was unharmed.

Mainor was cited and his pistol was seized as evidence, but may be returned at a later date.
