A Bowling Green man was cited for theft after he took a motorized wheelchair from Wood County Hospital because he couldn’t find another ride home.

Bowling Green Police responded to the hospital Wednesday (May 15) around 7 p.m. for a theft report. A 65-year-old man who had been released from the hospital had been waiting on a ride, but reportedly took the hospital’s electric wheelchair and headed home.

Officers located the man at his apartment in the 1000 block of Third Street. He told police that he needed to get home immediately because he had a dog at home and he needed to take his medications. The man said BG Transit was unable to give him a ride, and he intended to return the wheelchair the next day.

The electric wheelchair was taken back to Wood County Hospital, and the man was cited for theft.
