A Bowling Green man was cited for driving under the influence after reportedly passing out at a stoplight, then rolling into a police cruiser.
Bowling Green Police Division received a call at 3:47 a.m. Saturday about a motorist who appeared to be passed out behind the wheel at the intersection of Haskins and Poe roads.
Police arrived to find Stanley Perez, 51, in his car with the engine running and the brake lights on. One officer pulled up behind Perez’s car, and turned on the overhead flashing lights. He reportedly found Perez alone in the car, passed out or sleeping, with the transmission in drive and his foot on the brake. All the car doors were locked.
When a second officer arrived, he positioned his cruiser to prevent Perez’s car from leaving in an out of control manner.
When police knocked on the window, the driver started to wake and the car started to move forward at a slow speed – striking the police cruiser, then stopping.
An EMT with the fire division broke out the left rear window of the car, so an officer could get inside and put the car into park and rouse Perez.
Perez was reportedly unable to perform multiple tests at the scene for driving under the influence. He was taken to the police division, where his breath samples showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.185. Police cited him for driving under the influence and failure to maintain reasonable control.
According to police, Perez had been stopped by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office days before for driving under the influence. His license had been confiscated after that incident, so he was also cited by Bowling Green police for driving under suspension.
