Homegrown Hunter Brown has been named Bowling Green’s new city attorney.

Mayor Mike Aspacher announced his selection of Brown Monday evening, receiving unanimous approval by City Council.

Brown, a native of Bowling Green, will begin transitioning to his new role the first week of September, training under long-time City Attorney Mike Marsh, who is retiring at the end of September.

Brown will be the first full-time city attorney for Bowling Green. His experience includes serving as an intern with the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office, prosecutor with the city of Tiffin, adjunct professor at BGSU, and currently serving as Bowling Green city prosecutor since 2016.

Marsh heartily endorsed his replacement.

“I want to be the first to congratulate Hunter,” Marsh said. “I’m a big believer in promoting our own. He was made in Bowling Green. He’s been a terrific prosecutor. He’ll be a terrific city attorney.”

BGSU Head Volleyball Coach Danijela Tomic and two team members talk about upcoming season at BG Council meeting.

Also at Monday’s council meeting, Aspacher introduced BGSU Head Volleyball Coach Danijela Tomic and two members of the volleyball team.

Tomic, who has been in Bowling Green for 10 years, talked about the team’s high expectations for this coming season. And she asked for continued community support.

“We need BG to dream big with us,” said Tomic, who has twice been named MAC Coach of the Year. She predicted this year’s team would rank among the top 25 volleyball teams in the nation.

“We are playing the best in the nation,” she said. “We need your help.”

In particular, Tomic asked the community to show up when BGSU plays Western Kentucky University, from Bowling Green, Kentucky, on Sept. 2.

“We need to show them which Bowling Green is better,” she said.

In other business, Municipal Administrator Lori Tretter noted all the activities planned in Bowling Green this week – including move-in at BGSU, the National Tractor Pulling Championship, and Firefly Nights in the downtown on Friday.

“This is a great week for Bowling Green to shine,” she said.

Tretter asked that local residents be prepared for increased traffic in the community over the next week.

“Please be patient,” she said.
