Two Bowling Green parents were cited for child endangerment after their two boys were reportedly found around 4 this morning (Aug. 6) playing at a concrete business in the 500 block of Derby Avenue.
Bowling Green Police were called by an employee who noticed two young boys running around the stone yard in diapers. The boys were barefooted, and the worker advised police that there were glass shards in with the stone.
One of the officers on the scene recognized the boys, ages 5 and 6, from a similar incident on Aug. 3. The boys live in the 200 block of South College Drive – about seven blocks away from where they were found. Dispatch advised that one of the boys has autism and is nonverbal.
According to the police report, both boys had scratches and bruises all over their backs, chests, legs and arms.
Bowling Green Fire Division responded to the scene and transported the boys to Wood County Hospital. Staff there treated their injuries.
An officer called Wood County Job and Family Services to respond to the hospital to assess the situation.
The parents were contacted and responded to the hospital. The mother said they had no idea the boys had left the house. She said she normally sleeps in the same room as the boys, so she wakes up when they do. But she did not wake up this time, she said.
The couple told police they recently moved to their current residence. The parents said they put locks and alarms in place to stop the boys from leaving their former home, but believed the boys were done doing that.
The parents were cited for two counts each of child endangerment. The boys were released to go home with their parents.
