BG Police arrest 2 suspected in 50 Walmart thefts for allegedly stealing $1,477 in items from BG store

Bowling Green Police arrested two people Tuesday (10/29) who allegedly stole $1,477 in items from Walmart on West Gypsy Lane Road.

Police were called at 5:13 p.m., when store employees reportedly recognized the two people from previous thefts at the store, stating the male was wearing the same sweatshirt as the last time he allegedly stole from the store.

Officers arrested Demetrius Earl, 36, of Flint, Michigan, and Areanna Coley, 29, of Toledo, for theft, complicity to theft, and outstanding warrants from previous thefts from the Bowling Green store.

Earl allegedly used a fake debit card to purchase $1,477 in baby items, including a breast pump, baby monitor, and baby “dream socks.” Earl also reportedly asked for $40 cash back.

A sealed laptop, which Coley reportedly carried around in the store, was tracked back to a theft at a Walmart store in Cortland, Ohio. According to store employees, other items purchased fraudulently at the Cortland store had reportedly been returned for cash at the Bowling Green store.

Police reportedly found $2,806 in cash in Earl’s pockets, and found narcotics in Coley’s purse.

A store employee told police that Earl and Coley are suspects in more than 50 theft incidents nationwide, totaling nearly $250,000.
