BG Police arrest local man for domestic violence

Bowling Green Police charged a man for domestic violence Wednesday afternoon.

Alex Jones, 43, was arrested in the 100 block of Buttonwood Avenue, and taken to the Wood County jail.

Police responded to the apartment around 11:30 a.m., when the victim’s sister called police to ask them to check on her sister after receiving an unsettling phone call from her. The victim told police she was fine, and police asked her to call if she needed help.

Police later received a call from the daughter of the alleged offender around 1 p.m. This time when police arrived, the victim had a large swollen knob on her cheek, with a cut at the highest point of the cheek.

Police asked the victim if Jones was in the apartment. She said he was not. Police talked with the victim about her injury. She told police that she had fallen on ice when she took out the trash. The officer told the victim that he didn’t believe her, and that he needed to speak with Jones. She refused police entry into the apartment.

Another officer spoke with the victim, trying to convince her to ask Jones to talk with an officer, or to let them enter the apartment. She continued to say that she injured herself when taking out the trash. However, the officer who responded earlier, said the trash was already at the curb when he was at the apartment.

Officers gave the victim a victims’ rights pamphlet and took photos of her injuries. An EMS squad was called to check on her injuries, but the victim refused treatment.

Police then received more information from the daughter of the alleged offender. She said that while on the phone with the victim, she heard an argument and then a loud thud. She heard sounds like someone being struck, and reportedly heard the victim asking Jones why he was hitting her.

Police returned to the apartment to charge Jones with domestic violence. The victim continued to claim she hurt herself. She again refused to allow police inside, but as one officer held her back, another went inside and found Jones hiding behind the door. He was taken into custody.
