Bowling Green Police responded to a possible domestic violence in progress Saturday afternoon, after a 7-year-old boy ran to a neighbor’s house to report his mom was being beaten up.
The neighbor called police, and officers arrived at the home in the 200 block of East Reed Street to find Michael Kelley outside the home. Kelley, 29, of Bowling Green, reportedly was found to have a .40 caliber handgun, with seven rounds in the magazine, in his pants pocket.
Kelley has previously been convicted of domestic violence, is currently on parole, and not permitted to have a firearm. He was arrested for having a weapon while under disability, and transported to Wood County Jail.
Kelley reportedly told police the gun belonged to the woman at the residence, and he was just moving it to a safe in the garage.
Police then went to the neighbor’s house to talk with the boy, who said he heard Kelley yelling at his mom, then his mom yelling for Kelley to get off of her. The neighbor reportedly told police this wasn’t the first time the boy ran to her house for help.
The mom reportedly told police the argument was just verbal, but she later said Kelley hit her in the head with a laundry basket. She told police Kelley would not be allowed in her house, but he could live in the garage.
