Bowling Green Police responded to reports of a man hitting and kicking a woman in the 100 block of North Prospect Street, Saturday around 1 a.m.
Police charged David Bautista, 41, with domestic violence, and his wife, Christine Bautista, 36, with obstructing official business. The husband and wife, from Monrovia, California, were both taken to Wood County Jail.
Residents on North Prospect Street had called police to report seeing a man repeatedly hitting a woman from their living room window. They told police that he had pulled her by the hair, punched, slapped and kicked her several times, including one running kick which knocked her to the ground.
The witnesses also said that the woman did not fight back, and was asking the man to stop.
An officer was flagged down in the block by a witness giving a description of the man and woman. A BGSU Police officer also saw part of the altercation and intervened.
Video from city surveillance cameras reportedly showed David Bautista kicking his wife, causing her to fall to the ground.
David Bautista said he didn’t hit anyone. Christine Bautista told police that her husband did not strike her, and that they were just having a verbal disagreement. She said the people who reported seeing her being hit were lying.
David Bautista reportedly told police that he had been out drinking to celebrate his 20th anniversary of playing football for Urban Meyer at BGSU.
David Bautista reportedly told police he and his wife had been arguing all night, though he couldn’t recall why. He reportedly told police that his wife needed to be arrested because she was “a privileged white girl.”
According to the police report, while officers were trying to talk to David Bautista, his wife reportedly kept interrupting them.
She was advised to stop interrupting the investigation, but she reportedly continued talking in a very loud voice, and told her husband to not say anything. While officers talked to David Bautista, his wife repeatedly yelled at them. Officers asked her to stop interfering, but she continued approaching the officers and had to be physically stopped, according to the report.
After several interruptions, Christine Bautista was taken into custody for obstructing official business and taken to jail.
