BG police arrest man for domestic violence

A Bowling Green man was arrested for domestic violence after reportedly hitting family members.

Bowling Green Police Division received a call Sunday around 5:25 p.m., about a man wearing an orange jersey in the 100 block of South Main Street who had just hit a child in the back of a van.

Police saw William Etling Jr., 51, of Meadowlark Lane, wearing an orange jersey walking around the corner at South Main and Wooster streets.

Police approached Etling, who reportedly told them that he had been out at a bar drinking alcohol and watching the football game. He denied hitting anybody.

However, the family member who picked Etling up at the bar said he slapped her in the face, then got out of the van and opened the rear door to strike the juvenile passenger.

Several witnesses told police that they had seen the encounter.

The woman, who had pulled over the van on West Wooster, asked the police to not take Etling into custody in front of the juvenile. So officers walked him to the station and placed him into custody there.

Etling was taken to Wood County Justice Center. While in the back of the police cruiser, he reportedly made several threats on camera that he would fight the officer driving, or anyone who opened the back door to the cruiser. He also reportedly slammed his forehead several times against the divider glass in the back of the cruiser.
