Bowling Green Police arrested a man for OVI after an officer reportedly saw the driver vomiting out the window as he drove on North Main Street.
At three minutes till midnight on New Year’s Eve, an officer reportedly saw Joshua McCauley, 24, Pemberville, cross the center line twice while driving north on North Main Street near Clay Street. While initiating the traffic stop, the officer reportedly saw McCauley stick his head out the window to vomit while driving.
McCauley pulled the vehicle over, and the officer exited his vehicle. The driver reportedly began slowly moving forward, until the officer yelled to him to stop the vehicle and put it in park.
When approaching the vehicle, the officer reported seeing vomit on the driver’s side of the vehicle. McCauley reportedly told police that he had stuck his head out the window because he was hot.
McCauley reportedly had glossy eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol inside his vehicle. There was an open pack of alcoholic beverages on the floor of the passenger side.
According to the police report, McCauley had difficulty with field sobriety tests, so he was taken to the police station for a breath test. Once there, McCauley reportedly refused the breath test.
His operator’s license was suspended, he was cited for operating a vehicle while impaired and crossing marked lanes, then taken to Wood County Jail.
Another driver suspected of driving while intoxicated was stopped at 1:17 a.m. New Year’s Day, on North Main Street at Merry Avenue. That driver, Nicholas Rentz, 23, Pemberville, also refused to take a breath test, so his license was confiscated.
