Bowling Green Police Division arrested a Portage man on Sunday after he allegedly assaulted an officer.
Jordan Hendrix, 27, was charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, criminal trespassing and receiving stolen property.
Police were dispatched around 5 p.m. to the 1500 block of East Clough Street, for a man on a bicycle looking into vehicles and trying door handles in the parking lot of the apartment complex. When officers tried to take Hendrix into custody, he reportedly pulled away and tried to flee. According to the police report, he allegedly shoved one officer to the ground.
Another officer used a Taser, as Hendrix continued to resist, the report stated. Hendrix allegedly got on top of one officer, who was on his back. Another officer was able to pull him off, allowing the officer on the ground to deploy the Taser again. At that point, Hendrix reportedly stopped resisting.
Bowling Green Fire Division was called to check on Hendrix, who was transported to Wood County Hospital.
Police officers spoke with Hendrix’s mother, advising her that they had her son’s bicycle. She told police that he doesn’t have a bicycle, and had left home on foot.
Officers questioned Hendrix at the hospital. According to the police report, he admitted to trying to get in cars, but said he didn’t know what he would have done if he had found one open since he didn’t know how to hotwire a car.
Hendrix reportedly admitted to stealing the bike from an apartment in Portage. He also admitted to knowing that he was trespassing at the Clough Street apartment complex since he had previously been ordered to not be on the premises.
After being medically cleared at the hospital, Hendrix was taken to the Wood County Jail.
