Bowling Green Police and EMS units were dispatched Monday evening to the 1500 block of East Clough Street for a woman with a knife reportedly chasing her daughter.
When police arrived, several people outside the apartment said the woman, Donna Lamb, 41, was inside by herself. They were unsure if she had any weapons, but an open pocket knife was stuck into the carpet in the living room.
Police reportedly found Lamb in a bedroom, covered up with a sheet. She had some major bruising and swelling of her face, reportedly from a crash she was in a couple days before.
The medics with BG Fire Division came in and asked Lamb some medical questions, while an officer spoke with her 14-year-old daughter about what had transpired during the hours leading up to the call to police.
The daughter said she had confronted her mother about doing drugs, like smoking meth – which upset her mom.
Lamb then allegedly grabbed a knife off the dresser and went after her daughter. As they were running, the daughter’s phone fell out of her pocket, and her mom reportedly picked it up and stabbed it twice with the knife. According to the police report, the phone did appear to have markings consistent with that statement.
The teen said she calmed her mother enough to have her sit on the couch. Lamb allegedly grabbed the knife sitting next to her on the couch and asked if her daughter “wanted to play the knife game?” The daughter said she then grabbed two knives that were on the floor for protection and to keep them away from her mom.
Lamb told her daughter to leave, but as she was leaving, Lamb reportedly told her daughter she couldn’t go. The daughter told police she was afraid her mom was going to stab her or herself.
When family members returned to the residence to get the teen’s belongings, Lamb reportedly started making suicidal statements. Her family told police that they talked with her for about two hours before calling for help.
When police talked with Lamb about the incident, Lamb told police she was upset with her daughter because she didn’t go to school on Monday. But the daughter told police she had stayed home to take care of her mom, who had returned home from the hospital the night before following the crash.
Lamb was charged with domestic violence and taken to the Wood County jail. As she was being loaded into the police cruiser, she reportedly yelled out, blaming her daughter for the arrest. The teen went home with her 19-year-old brother until other arrangements could be made.
