BG police called to Walmart for customer walking around with firearm

Bowling Green Police Division received two 911 calls reporting that a person was openly carrying a firearm around the Walmart store, 131 W. Gypsy Lane Road, Tuesday at 1:11 p.m.

When police arrived, they found Rogelio A. Sanchez, 77, of Bowling Green, exiting the store, carrying a pellet rifle. Sanchez reportedly told police that he brought the pellet gun with him into the store so that he would be sure to buy the right kind of ammunition for it. He was also carrying a Walmart plastic bag with ammunition he had just purchased from the store.

Police informed Sanchez that Walmart has a policy of no open carrying of firearms. The policy is posted at the store’s entry. Sanchez reportedly told police he did not see the sign on the door.

Sanchez was advised that police had received two 911 calls, and that he had caused alarm by carrying the pellet rifle into the store.

Sanchez was given a criminal warning for disorderly conduct.
