Bowling Green Police Division cited a man for assault after her reportedly punched a woman in the face downtown.
Police were dispatched to the 100 block of North Main Street on Wednesday at 2:55 p.m., for a reported assault.
The victim told police she was sitting on a bench with her boyfriend and a man walked by and punched her in the face. She declined treatment by Bowling Green EMS. She told police the man’s name was Ray Beair, and that she wanted to press charges.
Police went to the 300 block of East Court Street, where Beair, 62, lives in a Harbor group home for people with mental health problems. They asked Beair what happened, and he said he has seen the woman on the bench the last couple days, and “all she does is cuss at him when he walks by.”
Police asked Beair if he punched the woman in the face, and he said that he did. He went on to say he was tired of her cussing at him, so he decided to punch her in the face.
Beair was given a citation for assault and was issued a summons to appear in court. He was advised by police that if anything like this happens again, he would be taken to jail.
The Harbor employee at the home told police this was not typical behavior for Beair.
Downtown video of the incident reportedly shows Beair getting up from sitting on a bench near the woman. He quickly approached her and punched her in the face one time. He then sat down, and about 20 minutes later, he was seen walking toward his house.
