BG police cruiser dented when man jumps on the hood

A Bowling Green police cruiser was damaged Sunday morning when a man jumped on the hood, putting a small dent in the 2020 Ford Explorer.

The police cruiser was parked in the 200 block of North Main Street at 2:11 a.m., as officers patrolled the downtown during bar closing time.

An officer, standing in front of the Wood County District Public Library, heard a thud and saw his cruiser begin rocking back and forth. The officer reported seeing a black man wearing black shorts and no shirt run from the cruiser. The man ran through the rear patio area of the Tiki bar and disappeared in the parking area in the 200 block of North Prospect Street.

The dash cam video only showed a shadowy figure jump on the hood. The downtown camera footage of the incident showed a black male wearing black shorts and no shirt talking with a group on the sidewalk. At one point he lightly throws himself onto the hood of the cruiser.

According to the police report, after several minutes the male jumped onto the hood more aggressively, landing on his back and elbow. The male got off the cruiser and began jogging away. The video is not clear enough to get any identifying information at this point.
