Bowling Green Police responded to a report of domestic violence in the 800 block of Pearl Street, on Tuesday around 7:44 p.m.
Officers arrested Joey Pruett, 50, who lives at the address, and took him to Wood County Jail.
When police arrived on the scene, they found steaming soup on the ground outside, and a crying woman and her son inside.
The woman told police that Pruett had thrown the soup outside, and was yelling in her face. She said she poked him, then Pruett reportedly wrapped both hands around her neck and pushed her approximately 10 feet into a wall and window. The woman said she then hit Pruett to get him to stop.
