BG Police Division responds to four fights over the weekend

Bowling Green Police responded to four fights over the weekend – three in the downtown area and one at an apartment complex. The division also responded over the weekend to gunshots fired, a felonious assault and an aggravated menacing – all reports which were not yet available this morning.

The first fight was called in Saturday at 1:14 a.m., when units were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 2000 block of East Napoleon Road for a fight involving 10 to 15 people.

Police arrived to see two females in a fight on the ground, swinging at each other and pulling each other’s hair. Several people were reportedly standing around watching the women fight.

The police attempted to separate the women, but they reportedly would not let go of each other’s hair. A few men assisted in pulling apart the women – Jakiah Moore, 21, of Bowling Green, and Kaylissady Dubose, 18, of Fostoria.

Moore and Dubose were charged with disorderly conduct – fighting. Felix Franklin, 21, Bowling Green, was charged with nuisance party.

A half hour later, at 1:42 a.m. on Saturday, two officers were on bike patrol downtown and stopped a person in front of a bar for an open container. While speaking with the person, a fight started in the 100 block of East Court Street.

Multiple people were in the street with hands up in a fighting stance, moving around. An officer saw one male with his hands up, squaring up to another man. The officer walked up behind the male and wrapped him in a bear hug style grab.

Other people from the fight ran once the officer intervened and a cruiser showed up.

The male, who had bar stamps on the back of both hands, turned out to be only 16 years old, from Toledo. He told police that someone “swung on me, so I swung on him back.”

The boy was released to his mother, and disorderly conduct and unruly behavior charges were sent over to juvenile court.

When viewing the video camera footage of the fight, police reportedly saw multiple males approach each other and start fighting in the middle of the street. The 16-year-old is reportedly seen squaring up with another male, chasing one and pushing him, then squaring up with another male when the officer grabbed him from behind.

Right after that fight, police were called to another in the 100 block of West Court Street, by the library.

Police saw approximately 10-15 people standing near the library for a minute then observed punches being thrown by multiple people. The officer started running to the location, when a bystander told him that a male was being “jumped.”

The officer yelled for the fight to break up, and people involved immediately ran in different directions. The officer saw two males in the group run behind the library, so he ran after them.

One male ran over to a city parking lot, while another ran eastbound on West Oak Street. That man tripped in the grass by the library and fell down. The officer grabbed him, but he was able to get away and continued running east.

A police cruiser was behind them with its lights and siren on. The male turned and ran south on North Main Street on the sidewalk. The police cruiser went by on Main Street and stopped near the intersection of North Main and West Court Street. The male then tried to cross the street and lost his balance on an object on the sidewalk, and ran into the back of the police cruiser parked near the intersection with its lights on.

The male lost a lot of momentum but continued to try and run. An officer then wrapped his arms around the male`s upper body and tackled him to the ground.

The man said there was an altercation, but he was not involved. Police asked him why he ran from them. He said that he did not know who was behind him, and thought someone was trying to beat him up, so he ran.

Another officer spoke with the victim of the fight, who said he did not want any charges pressed.

The man apprehended by police was released.

On Sunday around 2 a.m., police observed two males squaring up to fight in the 100 block of North Main Street. The men started to fight, and six to eight other males joined in.

An officer was able to grab onto two of the males, and tried to separate them. The six to eight other men continued to throw punches.

Several officers then used OC spray to help disperse the fight.

As the officer had Kaleb Johnson, 20, of Toledo, and Amari Harris, 19, of Toledo, on the ground, Johnson reportedly threw two more punches at Harris.

Johnson and Harris were charged with rioting.
