BG Police investigating counterfeit bills used at three businesses

Bowling Green Police are investigating three incidents of counterfeit bills being used to purchase items in local stores over the weekend.

On Friday, around 6 p.m., police were called to Rock`em Sock`em Retro, at 127 S. Main St., after two men and one woman used three fake $20 bills to purchase games. The employee didn’t realize the bills were fake until borrowing a counterfeit pen.

Police also spoke with employees at a restaurant downtown where one of the men had tried to use a counterfeit bill, but was unsuccessful.

On Saturday, an employee of Wild Bill’sTobacco, 1060 N. Main St., called police about a person using a fake $20 bill to purchase cigarettes the day before.

Video from the store shows the man is the same person suspected in the other incident – wearing a faded blue Atlanta Braves hat, a blue surgical mask, a white long sleeve Tommy Hilfiger shirt, and yellow sweatpants.

And on Sunday, police were called to El Zarape, at 1616 E. Wooster St., after a fake $20 bill was found in the cash drawer. It was unknown when the bill was put in the cash register.
