BG Police join State Patrol in high speed chase on I-75

Bowling Green Police Division joined the Ohio State Patrol in the pursuit of a vehicle Wednesday, at 3:25 p.m.

The patrol asked for assistance at a traffic stop on southbound Interstate 75, north of Bowling Green. The trooper told BG officers that the passengers in the vehicle had conflicting stories, and that he had observed a small amount of possible marijuana in the vehicle, a 2020 Toyota 4Runner.

As the officers were talking, the vehicle suddenly sped away, according to the BG police report. The troopers and police officers began to pursue the vehicle, which was headed toward Bowling Green on I-75.

The suspect vehicle had gained a significant distance and officers lost sight of it. A BG officer near the East Gypsy Lane Road overpass advised that he spotted it still driving southbound on I-75.

As the officers in pursuit drove over the overpass at U.S. 6, they saw a motorist frantically pointing toward westbound Route 6. An officer radioed all units that the suspect vehicle may have exited on Route 6, and a short time later, another officer saw the Toyota westbound on Route 6.

The suspect vehicle then turned around on Route 6 and headed east. Another BG officer deployed stop sticks, resulting in one tire being flattened on the vehicle.

The vehicle then got back on southbound I-75, and began driving at an “extremely high rate of speed,” reportedly weaving in and out of traffic.

The vehicle then exited I-75 at the Ohio 25 exit, 10 miles south of Bowling Green. It reportedly continued straight through the stop sign and back onto the I-75 southbound ramp, and crashed into a guardrail.

Officers reportedly saw one woman exit the vehicle and begin running. She jumped the guard rail and ran down into a ditch line, where the state patrol trooper pursued on foot.

The driver, Shantyanna Dabney, 29, of River Rouge, Michigan, was taken into custody by the Ohio State Patrol.
