Bowling Green Police Division is looking for Brandon Smarszcz, 37, of Portage, who has been charged with burglary at a home in the 100 block of North Grove Street in Bowling Green.
The burglary occurred on Halloween night or early the next morning. When the resident awoke the next day, he found that his medicine was missing from the kitchen. Also gone from the kitchen was a glass beer pitcher full of quarters and a tin beer bucket with assorted change, valued at approximately $1,000. Also missing was a ceramic jar that contained more than $6,000 in cash.
The resident noticed change scattered on the floor near the back door, which he then noticed has been damaged – likely by a pry tool, according to the police report.
In total, nearly $9,000 was reportedly stolen from the residence, the report stated.
According to the police report, the victim of the burglary owns a bar downtown and the suspect reportedly knew he would not be home that Halloween night.
Bowling Green police learned from Huron Police Department that it was investigating a suspicious person complaint involving Smarszcz. The police there had recovered about $1,700 in change and $6,600 in cash, along with a pry tool.
According to Bowling Green Police Lt. Dan Mancuso, Smarszcz had been released from the Erie County jail prior to the charges filed by BGPD.
Anyone with information is asked to call BGPD at 419-352-1131.
