BG police return to area of gunshots to find vehicle with bullet holes

Bowling Green Police Division returned to the area of gunshots Sunday evening.

Police initially responded to a residence in the 700 block of High Street for a loud party early Sunday at 1:41 am. While officers were on the scene, they heard several gunshots outside the building. Officers checked the area, and no suspects or victims were found.

The police division also received several other phone calls from people reporting that they heard gunshots in the area.

“We didn’t locate any injured people,” Police Lt. Dan Mancuso said.

On Sunday evening, police were called to the same block of High Street for a report of a vehicle that had bullet holes in its windows. The caller advised dispatch that he believed it was related to the shooting police responded to in that area the night before.

The vehicle, a 2016 Ford Escape, had a bullet hole in the rear passenger side window and another bullet hole in the front windshield on the driver’s side. There was also a bullet hole in the vehicle`s touch screen stereo. Looking at the bullet holes it appears as if a bullet or bullets entered through the rear passenger side window and exited through the front windshield.

Bullet fragments were found on the driver’s seat and floor on the driver’s side. Bullet fragments were also found on the floor on the passenger side and in the back-storage area of the vehicle. Three shell casings were found outside to the vehicle. One shell casing was found near the rear driver’s side tire and two were found behind the vehicle. All three shell casings were partially smashed and appeared as though they had been run over by other vehicles.

Mancuso asked that anyone with information on the shootings called the BGPD.

When police arrived for the loud party complaint, they saw a large number of people in the laundry room area, and a strong odor of burnt marijuana in the apartment building.

Several people began leaving the building, and police said the party needed to be shut down. While more people were leaving out the front door, officers heard several gunshots outside the building.

Police checked for suspects, victims and shell casings. Some shell casings were located in the middle of the roadway on High and Ninth streets. Witnesses also told people they observed a firearm being shot in the air.
