Bowling Green Police Division responded to a bomb threat Sunday around 6:42 p.m., at the Wood County Juvenile Residential Center, 1012 S. Dunbridge Road.
Staff at the center reported that a caller said “I’m going to bomb you tomorrow,” gave a quick laugh, then hung up. The voice reportedly sounded like a teenage boy. When staff tried to call the number back, it was connected to an application that allows users to disguise where they are calling from.
After making an emergency request, police were given the email address associated with the number, plus a call log from the number and IP address. Dispatch located a person by the name provided in Defiance.
Meanwhile, officers performed a sweep of the juvenile facilities, and no threats were detected.
Defiance Police responded, saying the person linked to the phone call was a juvenile currently on probation there. That department informed BGPD that the youth was on house arrest, and was wearing an ankle monitor for a previous incident. The police were also told that the 13-year-old boy has a cousin currently housed at JDC.
When a Bowling Green officer traveled to Defiance County, the teen reportedly admitted making the bomb threat. He reportedly told police he initially called JDC to talk with his cousin, and when no one responded, he made the threat. He told police he quickly realized he made a mistake and debated calling them back to tell them the threat was not legitimate, but did not.
The boy was taken into custody for a probation violation and transported to the Defiance County JDC.
