Bowling Green Police responded Thursday to a fraud report filed by a Bowling Green woman, who was reportedly scammed out of $10,000.

The woman told police she had responded to an ad on Facebook earlier this month for a medical data entry clerk position. She reportedly interviewed for the position and was hired at a rate of $28 an hour.

The woman said she then began receiving checks via email to buy software necessary for the position. She was told to cash the checks before sending the money to the vendor. She was also asked to purchase Apple gift cards and send the company photographs of the cards after she was told their Venmo account was not working properly.

On Thursday morning, the woman checked her bank account to find it locked and having a $0 balance. Her bank reportedly encouraged her to file a police report.

The woman was able to provide police with hard copies of the checks that she had received after she printed them out. The checks came from Starkey Enterprises, which appeared to be a legitimate website for a global hearing aid company.
