In recognition of the fourth annual national Energy Efficiency Day (EE Day) on Wednesday, Oct. 2, Bowling Green is joining regional and national organizations, businesses, utilities, universities, and individuals in promoting energy efficiency – the cheapest, quickest way to meet our energy needs, cut utility bills, and reduce pollution.

The city’s Efficiency Smart Program helps customers lower their electric bill through energy efficiency and guides them to savings through financial incentives and expert advice. Residents along with business and industrial customers have derived benefits from this innovative and helpful program.

Since 2011, Efficiency Smart has partnered with the city to provide energy efficiency services to more than 100 Bowling Green businesses and institutions, saving more than 29 million kilowatt-hours of energy and more than $2,228,000 in annual electric costs, expecting to save nearly $32.5 million in electric costs over the lifetime of the energy-saving products that were installed.

Reducing the energy used by manufacturers, homes, and businesses benefits everyone – especially energy bill-payers. The average household saves almost $500 yearly thanks to efficiency standards that apply to new appliances such as dishwashers, refrigerators and water heaters.
