BG Schools and police investigate student’s ‘list’; find no threat to students or staff

Bowling Green City School District is sending out a letter to parents today about an investigation into a perceived threat to high school students or staff.

This is the letter from Superintendent Francis Scruci:

Dear parents and guardians,

In response to recent inquiries, I would like to share the following information. After talking to the high school administration, a report was made that a student stated he had a “list.”  The High School Administration promptly responded and several students were called to the office to get information.

The BG Police Department was contacted and an investigation was conducted.  The Police contacted the parent of the student who had stated he had a “list” and after searching the student’s room, a list with names was found. The list did not have any other information and was not titled. The Police Department found no evidence that this “list” was a credible threat to the safety and well-being of students and staff.

Regardless, students received discipline for causing a disruption to the school environment. We live in a different day and age where all potential threats must be investigated and we cannot thank the BGPD enough for their continued support and concern. Please let me assure that the safety of your students and our staff is paramount.

Please continue to reinforce with your sons and daughters the importance of sharing any information that is a potential threat to individuals and/or our school environment to their teachers or administrators.  Together we can work to keep our schools, students and staff safe.

If you have any questions, please contact the administration at the high school.
