Cameron Deiter, a senior at Bowling Green High School, recently earned his 100th wrestling victory in a Dual versus Fostoria. This is a notable milestone for a high school wrestler to achieve.
The sport of wrestling is one of the oldest forms of competition recognized during the Roman Olympic times and still a part of the Olympics today. Northwest Ohio has been known for some great high school wrestling athletes over the years and it is one of the most highly decorated sports that Bowling Green High School has. Since the first state placer in 1960 with BGHS’s Bob Maurer, BGHS has had 32 state qualifiers so far.
To get to that level of achievement the hard work and sacrifice precedes the talent an athlete gains over the years. Another notable record to obtain is to win 100 matches in a high school career. This reportedly would be equivalent to scoring 1,000 points in a high school basketball career.
Despite some setbacks including the crazy couple of years of adjusting to COVID regulations, Cameron Deiter earned his 100th victory. He is one of only five others to have obtained this record at BGHS.
Deiter is still training hard to perform well enough to return to the state tournament as a two-time qualifier and fourth place finisher last year. He and his teammates begin that journey with the sectional tournament.
Deiter has had great support from his teammates, coaches and family for many years to help him reach this goal. His dad, D.J. Deiter, is one of the assistant wrestling coaches at Bowling Green High School.
