Bowling Green State University has seen a drop in new COVID-19 cases as it approaches the end of the semester.
“That’s an excellent trend,” said BGSU Chief Health Officer Ben Batey in his weekly update. “This is a great spot to be in.”
From April 12-18, 26 new cases were reported. Twenty-four were students, 71 percent of whom live off campus. Two were staff members. Four students who tested positive are isolated in campus housing, and 10 who were exposed are quarantined in residential hall.
Last week , 37 cases were reported.
Since the beginning of the semester the campus has reported 485 cases – 421 students, 54 staff, and 10 faculty.
Since the beginning of the year, the university has conducted 17,408 tests of symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals, diagnosing 487 cases, a 2.8 positivity rate.
Batey said that the university will continue to conduct walk-in clinics to vaccinate students with the Pfizer vaccine. Those receiving the first dose will be able to get the second shoot “wherever home is for you,” Batey said.
For those staying locally, the Wood County Health Department will also have walk-in clinics where they can receive their second shots.
