Bowling Green State University’s trend of fewer undergraduate students but growth in online graduate programs.

The spring 2022 enrollment report showed a 4.2 percent decline in students on the Bowling Green campus. The report shows 13,448 students enrolled, down from 14,037 a year ago.

Graduate enrollment remained steady with 3,107 students, down slightly from 3,190 a year ago,  but still one of the highest on record, according to the university.

“The University’s eCampus and distance learning programs continue to be a major driving force behind graduate enrollment,” according to a press release issued Monday at the request of BG Independent News.

“BGSU was recently ranked among the nation’s best in four categories in the U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs rankings, which were released in late January.”

BGSU launched its eCampus in fall, 2015. The eCampus offers 17 master’s degree programs, four bachelor’s programs, one associate’s programs, and 16 certification and endorsement programs.

Enrollment at BGSU’s Firelands campus also ticked down to 1,770 students from 1,863 a year ago.

Total headcount for BGSU for the semester is 18,325, down from 19,090 a year ago.

“Spring enrollment numbers remain strong, especially in graduate programs that are at the second highest enrollment on record at Bowling Green State University,” said Cecilia Castellano, vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Outcomes. “Similar to national trends seen during the pandemic, the University’s spring enrollment numbers reflect a small decline in undergraduate programs, but a nearly unprecedented interest in graduate degrees. BGSU remains committed to meeting our students where they are to provide an education of value.”

The university is continuing enrollment efforts for forthcoming semesters.

BGSU continues to take applications for summer and fall enrollment.

Enrollment for spring session two is open through March 8. The University has waived application fees and test scores for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
