Memorial Hall’s days are numbered. What that number is, however, is uncertain.
At last week’s BGSU Faculty Senate meeting, Provost Joe Whitehead mentioned the need to move gymnastics and ROTC.
The building also houses a part of the School of Earth, Environment and Society.
Gymnastics are set to move to the Stroh for meets.
University spokesperson Michael Bratton in an email confirmed Whitehead’s implication that “there are plans to eventually raze the building, but an official timeline has not been established and funding also needs to be identified. The demolition will fall under Master Plan 2.0, but the timeline is undetermined.”
Whitehead indicated the demolition would be in the short-term before Master Plan 2.0, which is the formulation stage, would be determined.
Whitehead said that the master plan will focus on the STEM corridor, including the renovation of the Technology and the buildings east of University Hall – Central Hall, the Education Building, Eppler, Carillon Place, and Jerome Library.
The master plan, which is expected to be presented to the Board of Trustees in 2024, will focus on positioning the university for enrollment growth.
He reassured the senate that this will not involve lazy rivers or such amenities, but facilities “that make a difference over a long period of time.”
Whitehead concluded: “The campus will look completely different in 10 years.”
