Bloomdale man arrested after reportedly being found intoxicated and asleep in pickup with firearm

A Bloomdale man was arrested Thursday (March 13) after he was reportedly found intoxicated and asleep in his pickup truck, with a handgun under the center console.

Bowling Green Police received a call around 4:35 p.m., after a customer reported to a business that a driver was slumped over in a running vehicle in the parking lot in the 1700 block of East Wooster Street.

Police found Russell Downard, 53, reportedly asleep and snoring in the driver’s seat, with an open container of alcohol in the center console, and a revolver with seven rounds in the chamber under the console.

Downard reportedly told police he had ordered food for pickup more than an hour before officers found him slumped over in the pickup.

A breath sample reportedly showed Downard’s BAC was 0.106. He was arrested for lack of physical control, improper handling of a firearm in a vehicle, and having an open container in a vehicle. He was taken to Wood County Jail.
