Bloomdale woman dies when the truck she was riding in strikes Fostoria hospital

A Bloomdale woman died when the truck she was a passenger in went off the road and struck the ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital.

Penny S. Stevenson, 55, was a passenger in a Ford pickup, operated by Howard Stevenson, 58, also of Bloomdale, which failed to negotiate a curve on Van Buren Street in Fostoria Monday, (Dec. 12) at 6:40 p.m., according to the Findlay Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol

The truck was headed southwest when the driver lost control and drove off the right side of the roadway, struck a sidewalk and went off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle continued through the hospital parking lot, striking the hospital.

The driver and passenger were both taken into the hospital for treatment by hospital staff. The passenger succumbed to fatal injuries at the ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital. The driver sustained serious injuries and was transferred by air ambulance to ProMedica of Toledo Hospital. 

Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Fostoria PD, Fostoria Fire Department and Franks towing.

The incident remains under investigation.
