Bobcat baseball team clinches lead in seventh inning for victory over St. John’s

Bowling Green Varsity Bobcats Baseball team nabbed the lead late in the game in a 7-6 victory over St. John’s Jesuit on Tuesday.  Bowling Green trailed 5-4 in the top of the seventh inning when Jimmy LaForce homered on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.

The Bobcats built a four-run lead in the second inning and then held off St. John’s Jesuit’s charge.  St. John’s Jesuit managed six runs in the failed comeback. Loisel, Robie, Dzierwa, and Operacz powered the rally with RBIs.

Bowling Green got on the board in the first inning when Brady Gaines doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Gaines took the win for the Bobcats. Gaines went one and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on one hit and striking out one.  Brent Boston, Brayden Clauson, and Drake Joseph all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team toward the victory.

McCanna led things off on the hill for St. John’s Jesuit. The hurler allowed five hits and four runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two.  Operacz threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Jack Brown started the game for Bowling Green. The righty allowed three hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one.

The Bobcats hit one home run on the day. LaForce put one out in the seventh inning.

Brock Hastings went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Bowling Green in hits.

Operacz led St. John’s Jesuit with two hits in two at bats.
