Bobcat band marching to the beat of new drums thanks to BG Community Foundation grant

Bobcat Marching Band with new quad drums

Drum roll, please … the Bowling Green Community Foundation and the Bowling Green Bobcat Band Boosters have announced the addition of four new quad drums to the Bowling Green Bobcat Marching Band.

These new quad drums can be seen at all Bobcat Marching Band events and have already been heard at band camp, class, football games, Rally BG, and the Anthony Wayne Band Festival. The quality of these drums will last for years and will be heard at plenty of community events for years to come.

“The Bobcat Marching Band is an integral part of our high school identity and pride. However, over the years, our percussion section has faced significant challenges due to aging instruments, particularly our quads (also known as tenor drums). These instruments are essential for creating the dynamic rhythms and beats that drive our performances. The grant provided by the Bowling Green Community Foundation was specifically allocated to purchase new quads, addressing a critical need within our percussion section,” said Band Booster President Terry Burton.

The quads, cases, and harnesses were purchased from Rettig Music by Jennifer Metzger, one of the Bowling Green Bobcat Band directors who oversees the percussion section. The quads were covered by grants from the BGCF in 2022. The additional cost of the harnesses and cases was covered by other fundraising from the Band Boosters.

The Bowling Green Community Foundation, a non-profit entity, exists to improve the quality of life in the Bowling Green area by providing funding and support for diverse and innovative programs that enhance the health, welfare and vitality of the Bowling Green community. Private contributions are the sole support of the foundation.
