Body of missing crash victim located in ditch

The body of Joshua D. Roach, the operator of a vehicle involved in a one-vehicle crash Tuesday, March 3, was located today (March 7) shortly after noon in the water-filled ditch, approximately 1.5 miles north of the crash location.

Roach was pronounced dead and was transported to the Lucas  Coroner’s Office for further examination.

Wood County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating the single-vehicle crash since deputies were called to the scene on Poe Road just east of Range Line Road, in Plain Township shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday.

The crash involved a westbound Oldsmobile Intrigue. The investigation showed that the vehicle failed to maintain its lane, running off the roadway to the north and coming to rest upside down in a water-filled ditch.

Any occupants of the vehicle were not located at the time with the search continuing throughout the week.

A water rescue team and drones were used in the search. Alerts were posted on Code Red and by the sheriff’s office asking for any information.

Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn said Wednesday that the driver’s cell phone was left in the car, and the back window of the vehicle was broken out.

Perrysburg Township Fire Department’s water rescue team searched the ditch, while sheriff’s deputies and firefighters walked the area, and drones searched from the sky, according to Chief Deputy Eric Reynolds earlier this week.

The water in the ditch was moving swiftly, Reynolds reported.
